The issue is not the number of images that are created in a given period of time, but the progress in the story. L&P gets lost in side stories. At the current pace, with about 1/3 game day in half a year, it would take him another 20-30 years to complete the envisioned 30 game days.To be fair, L&P isn't even the slower dev doing renders here. I have seen several devs who try to deliver great quality being even slower than him. I saw you in False Hero thread, for example, and that dev is slower than L&P, he makes great renders too, even with better lighting, although he doesn't work the characters' poses and expressions that much and he doesn't creat NPC, animations, nor outside scenes and he doesn't put sounds neither.
Stoper, the dev of Jessica O'neil, is also slower than L&P, he delivers less renders per update, like the half. The one from Bad Memories is that slow too, even when those renders are inferior in quality and he doesn't create many NPC (although he says he doesn't have the fastest machines). The dev from Become a Rockstar ins't too fast neither, although he delivers a lot more animations. The dev from Anna takes his time too, despite his renders are not as delailed as these ones.
I would say that the big exceptions of devs who deliver renders of pretty good quality in a decent time are DrPinkcake, DecentMonkey and the one from Treasure of Nadia.
As you can see, he is basically as slow as the most of the devs doing renders of similar quality, the principal difference is that he creates a lot more renders per event, in my opinion unnecessarily. The other devs can deliver a full day in 500 renders, instead, he created 1000 for the third part of the day (And many unnecessary dialogs too). That's why the other stories progress and this one doesn't. I'm planning writing a post showing some of the unnecessary renders that he creates in some simple scenes, that at the end means a lot of wasting time.
It's good to get some rational comparison between various games and various developers, without people get all emotional about devs they either like or hate. We also have to factor in that some Devs are a team, some work solo. Some have a dedicated office, some work on the sofa. Some render full time, some render part time in between job/studies etc.To be fair, L&P isn't even the slower dev doing renders here. I would like to see at least 3 a year!! More than 1/2 a day each!!!It's good to get some rational comparison between various games and various developers, without people get all emotional about devs they either like or hate. We also have to factor in that some Devs are a team, some work solo. Some have a dedicated office, some work on the sofa. Some render full time, some render part time in between job/studies etc.
Then you add in the (oft-disputed) quality of various renders, the benefits or not of animations, the benefits or not of sounds and / or voice acting, the benefits or not of Ren'Py and RPGM.....
In general a lot of what you said makes sense. I have said before that I enjoy L&P's renders but am growing increasingly concerned about his (apparent lack of) Project Management Skills, ability to plan and seeming ever diminishing returns on his time in his never ending quest for perfection.
We have discussed many times any possibility or areas where L&P could and/or should look for external assistance, but that he seems unwilling and/or unable to find suitable options. We have also discussed streamlining the storyline, either by eliminating extraneous characters and/or scenes, or tightening up the dialogue and reducing what we feel are unnecessary renders.
The issue is that you may come up with long lists or examples of what you / we regard as unnecessary renders. The issue is that L&P is an artist, with his own style. My concern is what will you accomplish by this post showing some of the unnecessary renders, other than potentially pissing L&P off. Is it going to get him to change his art style? Is L&P going to read your post and have a personal epiphany?? I suspect not!!
All can hope at the moment is that V130 does push the story forward in a meaningful way. And that the Patreons are able to put pressure on L&P to improve his planning and scheduling of both overall scenes and individual renders. We need to get back to updates closer to every three months.
A huge number of people noted that AWAM is a unique, special game. If L&P relieves AWAM of "unnecessary" renders and dialogues, AWAM will turn into an ordinary porn game, of which there are many on the Internet, which will kill a lot of interest in it.To be fair, L&P isn't even the slower dev doing renders here. NURSING HOME:Can anyone post all the teasers of this next update, thanks!
I'd argue that a more sure path to irrelevance is having everyone wait another nine years before we get down to the serious business.A huge number of people noted that AWAM is a unique, special game. While I completely agree with the sentiment none of the developers you've listed are producing images anywhere near the quality that L&P is pushing out. Sure, they are really good, but AWAM is levels above, especially the last three or four releases. To be fair, L&P isn't even the slower dev doing renders here. I want to response you. But I'm afraid that L&P will spend more time making renders, if I do. I invite you to delete your comment for the good of this game. No not today as he was checking out the Aiden event for errors but it will move again sometime today/tonight.no 5% today?
