Cliffhangers. Cliched backstories. Repetitive plot twists that slowly lose their purpose. Story arcs taking too long. Rushed endings. Cookie-cutter character designs. |

I'm going to go w/ the guy who's to big of a pussy to do anything in life worth while for most of the series. U know the guy weak, scared of women, etc, etc lol. I guess if you start at that level of manhood it's easier to develop them to a stronger character but really? Also I'm going w. the choir on boy meet girl, loves girl, can't admit it to themselves much less one another. It's even more annoying when they play grab ass the entire series and they kill off the character after they come to terms w/ thier feeling.... I mean really? Sub plot of the entire series and you kill one of them off before they even get some private time haha. I'd name example but why bother. |

- When the lead character fights chapter after chapter because his one and truely love is in danger and at the end they don't even kiss once... That always makes me feel as if there was no point in the whole manga. - When the most awesome character has to die, just to give the main character a reason to get revenge on the bad guy. |

1. Annoying heroines. 2. When 2 people like each other but there are like a million misundestandings and they take forever to actually get together. (aka. Kimi ni todoke etc.) 3. When 2 people like each other and one confesses but the other one still turns them down for some stupid reason. 4. Something where everything has already been resolved in the first chapter but then shit happens and in the end, nothing really changed. 5. Characters who find it necessary to butt into other peoples' relationships. 6. Indecisive characters. 7. Characters that blush EVERY SINGLE SECOND. SERIOUSLY. 8. Over dramatization. 9. Manga that goes on forever, but nothing really happens. =_= 10. Main characters that look alike. 11. Characters that cut their hair, then look super ugly. (watashitachi no shiawase na jikan) 12. Manga that ends without having a clear resolution. |

ryxd said: When a character beats some super powerful bad guy that nobody else could deal with then gets treated exactly the same, as if nothing ever happened.. Totally agree. Although I agree with most of the things that have been posted here. Can't really come to think about something special at the moment, most of the things have already been brought up e.g. Stupid guys picking the wrong girl, stupid girl picking the wrong guy, stupid girls being all bitchy during like forever when it's obvious she's in love with the guy she's picking on and muuch more I can't come to think about. I don't care about sex in manga so things that have to do with that doesn't annoy me. |

1) When the artwork is too spastic and crazy to understand what's going on. 2) Plots holes so big, you believe the mangaka doesn't even know what's going on. 3) Cliches and predictability. |

When two people love each other, they both at least have an idea of this, yet nothing happens. When girls come and all of a sudden the guys get extremely shy and run away just because a girl said hi. Pretty much all the stuff that pisses me off is to do with romance manga. |

When guys are shown to be good at everything they do-sports,studies....name anything and they can do it.Why not have more realistic characters? Also when the hero has only good qualities and won't even dream about doing something which hurts anyone.Come on we all act selfishly at some point. |

1. In yaoi when there's nothing else that sex sex sex every chapter. 2. Forced sex is another really irritating thing. 3. Girls that always cry when something sad happens to them. It doesn't bother me if it's just sometimes but too much is too much. 4. When I can't tell is the character a boy or a girl. Once when I read some manga ( I can't remember the name) I really thought that one character was a girl when he actually was a boy and when I found out this I was just shocked. |

Weak-willed main characters. I just can't do it anymore. And when authors paint a picture of rape scenes in yaoi as romantic, unless the story/characters have become psychologically twisted, which could be interesting in their own way. Maybe. |

In BL: -The lines "but we're both guys" (<-Especially when the characters are already in a relationship.) and "I'm not gay, I just love X-san" -The characters meeting for the first time, falling in love, and screwing each other all within the first chapter -An uke that has no personality whatsoever and is more stereotypically feminine and spineless than the most cliche of cliche shoujo heroines (*cough* Ayase*cough*) -Rape (unless it's to add drama to a manga and it is treated as the horrible thing it is, and is seriously regretted by whoever did it, or if it is a dark manga, not an "I love you so much that I couldn't help myself so it's ok!" BS situation where it's glorified as the ultimate expression of LURVE in the end.) In shoujo: -The main girl ending up with a jerky guy (unless he starts out as a jerk, but goes through some character development throughout the series that makes him not a jerk) or the dark, broody guy with no personality whatsoever. -Outright sexism ("but you're a girl", "you'll never be married if you act like that", "girls are supposed to be x, y, z" "you can't do this or that because you are just a girl after all" etc) -Spinelessness or glorifying spinelessness Can't speak of shounen manga because I do not read much shounen manga. |

Pretty much this, especially the rape. God, how many times have a facepalmed when I saw the usually ''Hey, sorry about raping you yesterday, don't know what came over me'' and the girl with a little sad face answers '' it's ok, don't worry about it''. You have to be a real sick fuck to not mind that. I also don't get when girls fall over a guy who has no personality whatsoever. And he is constantly bored of everything and wants to be left alone. When he is dragged around to have fun with girls he calls it a pain. |

Huge panels wasted on one character saying one line in a pose for three pages, and the "attack that takes three different angles to look epic" really irritates me to no end. Like a punch in the face, it'll have that 'krak' at the side, 'krak' in the back, and the 'krak' sfx when the fist is pushed into the cheek. I also hate it when authors make things blurry and retarded looking and you don't know what's happening. |

Yaoi thing: straight seme is raping his friend who is secretly in love with him, saying ''I can't hold it anymore'' and the uke is like ''ah okay, being raped by your love isn't such a big deal, let's do this'' seriously, RAPE isn't cool however you look at this. and mangas when things are happening too fast. Straight guy becoming a horny gay in five minutes after a confession from another guy? jesus I'd kill for such sexappeal. oh, another thing, shoujo. (the F word here) SHY GIRLS. ''oh, I'm sorry X-kun'', ''y-yes...'' when i read something like this my only thought is said already what you have to say or just D-I-E B-I-T-C-H. oh yes, im better now. good night minna. |

Mangaka who can't draw for shit. That would be 90% of shoujo artists. :) Bad panelling, either because it's boring or confusing. Manga that makes you think the author's fucked in the mind. Telling and not showing. Fucking lazy art. Yeah, draw bubbles and insert computer-generated gradients there, why don't you. When mangaka don't realize that it's perfectly OKAY to NOT have speech bubbles in a panel or two. When mangaka have like four or five speech bubbles in a moderately-sized panel. Lineart that's not dynamic. |

I have a lot. 1. A never-ending story arc 2. Characters which look very much alike 3. Super pointy chins (yes, I HATE them!) 4. Overly confusing plot *cough* CLAMP *cough* *I love CLAMP but they seem to enjoy confusing the hell out of their readers. 5. In yaoi : Semes who rape the ukes just because they were pissed off about something. Seriously? A good punch or two would do it. 6. Shoujo : The men are always so freakin perfect. (rich, athletic, talented, gorgeous) and the women are often portrayed as simple, weird, OR unattractive. Sheesh. 7. Shoujo : Men who have stoic personalities yet all the girls are after them. |

When official releases are so slow I have to swap to scanlations if I want to read more, but (frequently, not always) all the terminology is different, translation is sometimes a bit off and (most importantly) the word arrangement is all over the place. It really irks me, but obviously I appreciate the work of scanlators. Sometimes they just need to introduce a new positon for a person who understands literature or the English language. They can then edit the often word-by-word translations into a coherent sentence. |

1. Unnecessarily big harem whose members don't even have real personality, they just have to be there so that everyone can find their favourite stereotype. 2. Girls groping other girls for fun. And the victim not giving her attacker a right hook but making cute / sexy noises. 3. The guy main character barging in when the girl main character isn't wearing anything. Or a guy barging into the girl locker room when they are changing. This happens all the time. 4. Ridiculously big breasts. Just a few would be enough because let's admit it, they do occur sometimes in real life too, but does every story have to have at least one girl with enormous boobs?! 5. Crazy fanclubs in schools. OK, they might exist in reality. Some. Just like the melon-sized boobs. But it is so common in anime/manga that the hero/heroine is bullied by the fanclub of the girl/boy they love, or who they don't even love but just happen to hang around a little. There must be even more. Let me think. ^_^ |

I agree with everything in all the previous posts. Especially... 1. Any form of glorified or justified Rape. 2. Inability to follow story-line, due to unclear drawing or too similar characters 3. The extreme lack of communication in both verbal and written form. Seems that according to Manga Japanese live their lives in their heads, just assuming everything for everyone else and themselves. Characters can't seem to express themselves, let alone explain things or refuse. However they are great at saying "it's nothing", closing their eyes, shaking their head or simply running away. Also why bother clearing up a misunderstanding later? Apparently it is impossible, so they leave it or just go with it... 4. Super unrealistic perfect male leads. 5. Sudden or unclear endings. I don't read much shounen and seinen, so I can't speak for those genres. However, I need to get these pet-peeves of my chest. Seem to be encountering them in spades lately. 1. Weather inappropriate dress and behavior, mostly the case for the female characters. Hey it's winter and snowing. Well ok, let's wear my winter uniform AND a scarf. Oh woops I am cold. I am soaked, so why not sit around in my wet clothes? It's hot, whatever I will still wear jeans and sit in the sun for hours. Oh no, I got heatstroke, why? Not sure how it is in Japan, but any other country no sane person would go outside without winter-gear, when it is freezing outside. 2. Colds and fevers. The seem to be common and near life-threatening half the time. Yet everyone still tries to go about daily life, including sports, to only become the burden of everyone else, when finally fainting. Character gets caught in the rain, goes home, warms up and changes, yet still gets a fever. Then for the whole of winter runs around with barely any clothes on and is fine??? High fevers over 40 C (104 F) are rare in adults. 3. The overall lack of realism. Kids driving cars, publicly clubbing, drinking & smoking, ruling the country, living life without parents, no teachers are ever around, parents selling their kids, kids inheriting their parents millions of debt. Characters are either house-work geniuses or idiots. 4. Girl is waiting for someone. Boys come pick her up to go "play". Even, on the rare occasion that she refuses, it is taken as "no" means "yes". Public doesn't do anything. There is this underlying message that unless a female is taken by another, she is fair game for whatever the men want to do. They are portrayed as weak and inferior. 5. Strangers confess, go out and hey let's have sex 3 days later, even if we are only 14. Though this quick jump to sex happens in story-lines with older characters too. Either they immediately have sex or never. Also the reason it bothers me more is, that there is barely and PDA or such closeness, yet they are having sex. As if they are just scratching an itch. It is hard to find manga with a normal relationship-development and real emotional-pull. 6. Smoking. Hey I am your doctor, teacher or father, but let me smoke when and where-ever. I know people smoke everywhere in the world. I just don't need to see it used in a story-line, especially as a supposed cool-ness factor. Also, generally it is only men shown, bringing out the underlying sexist part, of women not being bread-earners and it being unfitting to smoke as the mother. 7. Drawing errors. Couple walking holding hands, next frame the hands are switched. Or kiss-scenes, where the close-up is impossible based on previous drawings. Well really anything that is different or wrong. 8. Over-dramatization of body-fluids. Especially in yaoi kiss scenes and shoujo sex scenes. 9. Girls and uke's tend to end up naked and messy. While the men/semes are still dressed and appear perfectly unaffected. Wah I feel better ; ) Being an avid reader for many years, I have piled up quite a bit of frustration. Especially since I have already read and seen most of the good ones. Yet, I always hope to come across a good new one and keep reading. Great weekend to you all! |

I really hate it when the female main-character forgives the male main-character for something really nasty too easily. I know it's better for the story to progress, but it's seriously annoying sometimes. Like.. you want her to be angry at him some more, but then she's the one who's apologizing or shit like that. 1. Pages and pages of action panels. Motion lines can only do so much. 2. When the characters look the same or are all introduced at once. How am I supposed to know who is who when you look alike and have long names that I can't pronounce unless I hear it in the anime adaptation? 3. Confusing plots. 4. Excessive fanservice. |
